BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in London (Greater)

The dial stands on a plinth to the north west of the steps to the north door. The plinth is shaped like a font, having a fluted bowl on a tapering octagonal shaft, on a large octagonal base. The dial has Arabic hour numerals read from the south, with full length hour lines and divided to 30, 15 and 5 minutes. Inscriptions around the northerm arc of the chapter ring read: ’Horas non numero nisi serenas, Apparent Solar Time, [and the location]’. In a section to the south of the gnomon is ’Correction to GMT’ with a table of minutes to add or subtract, one value given for each month. The cardinal compass points are shown with E and W on the outer ends of the 6 - 6 line. At the southern perimeter is ’Designed and made by S Malin and R Kirkman Copyright 1994’. The gnomon plate is ornamented on both sides. The arc cut in the northern edge represents the sun’s surface, with solar flares indicated and radial lines for the solar wind, and the nine planets all probably in correct relative size.
