BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The Gables Hotel, Hunstanton

The dial is situated on a chimney breast in the side wall of the building, at first floor level. A plaque on the wall indicates that the house was the home of H G Ibberson, an architect, in 1908, which may date the dial and provide its designer. The dial has embossed upright Arabic numerals for 7am to 5pm with hour lines to a semicircle around the gnomon root. Across the foot of the plate is ’It is better to / travel hopefully / than to arrive’. The side edges have square ’shingled’ panels. In each of the upper corners is an hourglass, and in each lower corner a sunwheel. Above the dial is a protective strip with tendrils in the Art Nouveau style.
