BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Bethany, Weedon

The dial is mounted on the east end of the south face of the house, to the right hand side of a first floor window. The plate is white with grey furniture, with ’C’est l’heure de bien faire’ across the top. ’Lat 53 29 55 Lon 2 21 25’ is shown across the lower edge, suggesting that the dial was designed for Manchester. In the centre above the lower edge is a monogram of J and S entwined, above a date 1873, possibly 1875. Hour lines are set out around a shield shape with aligned numerals VII - XII - IV - VI, with hour lines to an arc around the gnomon root, and half and quarter hour divisions. Equinox and solstice lines are shown, with the appropriate zodiac signs at each end. The bronze gnomon has a bar nodus and an included pierced supporter representing the globe with meridians, and equator and tropics. The material of plate is unknown but it is framed with wood.
