BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Clwyd Area

4am to 8pm; Roman numerals for hours; 4 is IIII; 12 is XII with split noon; diamond half-hour markers; minutes markers; 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 minutes marked; lines mark quarter-hours. EoT ‘WATCH FASTER, SLOWER’ etc; MONTHS names abbreviated (JAN, FEB, etc). 16 compass points names as N, S, NW, etc; At south ‘BATE LONDON 1826’; ‘Lat. 53: 4. 20’; ‘Longt 12m 50s in time W’ ‘HEB NEVOL NERTH NID SICR SAETH’ (Without heavenly help the arrow flies in vain), and an indistinct crest of a coat of arms incorporating a boar’s head with an arrow, plus helmet and surrounding leaves. Plain solid gnomon, 12 thick. Fine-grained yellowish sandstone baluster pedestal 1320mm high, with octagonal plinth. More high resolution photos available on CD.
