BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Essex

The dial is in the Pleasure Gardens, to the north side of the house. It sits on a square capstone on an octagonal sectioned plinth. Times 5am to 7pm are shown, in Roman numerals read from outside, divided to half hours. The motto is reported as ’Life is but a Walking Shadow’. The same gnomon can be seen on SRN 7867, in Lincs.
