Dial in Strathclyde Region

The dial is near the Club House. The designer explains that it is based on a golf swing, ie the shape the club makes when taking it back and swinging to hit the ball, hence the curved hour lines! The gnomon is shaped like a golf club. Embossed hour numerals. Tiny hour marks on the outer rim of the dial plate. Decorative indented curved lines. No markings on the underside of the dial plate. The letters D, S and P replace hour numerals 12, 11, 10. The letters and numbers are golf clubs ie s = sand wedge, p = pitching wedge, d = driver, the other numbers are 6 iron 5 iron et cetera. Simple square-section tapered pedestal of sandstone blocks supporting a square stone slab. Bronze tablet bearing the words: ’BRODICK / GOLF CLUB / IN / CELEBRATION / OF THE / COURSE / CENTENARY / 2013. This tablet replaces an original one which celebrated the centenary year of the club in 1997 (on a different course, across the road).
