BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford

A 4-ring armillary sphere, accessible only from inside the hospital. Inscription ’Thou by the dialÆs shady stealth mayst know timeÆs thievish progress to eternity’ around one of the rings (from Sonnet 77 by William Shakespeare). Roman hour numerals for 6am to 7pm, in 15 and 30 minute intervals.
