BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Gloucestershire

The pedestal is a female gymnast with a hoop acting as the chapter ring, and her upraised leg acting as the gnomon. The ring uses Roman numerals to give both GMT (5am to 7pm) and BST (LMT) for 6am to 8pm, with half-hours marked on the BST scale. The rectangular plinth carries an EOT graph, and Lat/Long and elevation details, and around its four sides is ’PULVUS OMBRA SOMUS [We are dust and a shadow]/ SUFFICIT / UNUM LUMEN IN TE / NEBRIS [A single light in the darkness is enough]’. Ref: BSS Bulletin 25(iv) Dec 2013, pp 8-11 gives a very thorough description by the maker.
