BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Uppingham School, Uppingham

The dial stands on "Mason’s Lawn" in the school grounds. It is of the ’underslung’ gnomon type, distributed by Haddonstone. Roman numerals 4 - 12 - 8, from inside, with hour lines and 30, 10 and 5 minute divisions. It has a split noon, incorrect on two counts - too wide for the gnomon, and designed for a normal ’top-style’ gnomon. Motto ’Make time, save time, ’ etc. The plinth has three supporting cherubs and stands on a square sectioned base. Ref: ’Time in Rutland’, Ovens & Sleath
