BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Clwyd Area

Signed ’M HUGHES Fecit 1758’ (the ’M’ conjoined with the ’H’). Installed in this location 2012. Plate fixed with 3 asymmetrically-placed slightly rusting screws; 8 compass directions with decorated pointers and named: N, NE, E, SE, etc. Numeral from inside IIII - XII - IIII - VIII, with 15 min markers, and 7.5 mins in outermost ring. Elegant, fluted baluster pedestal. Fine-grained grey sandstone on 2 sandstone steps set on slate octagonal base. Upper step octagonal, lower step square with corners cut. Height from ground to dialplate 123cm. Initials and date carved on the side of pedestal top: ’JTW JRW MCMX’. Reported to have been made for Penloyn, north of Llanrwst. Said to have recently been inherited by Mr Entwistle and removed from Penloyn and installed in his garden in Bolton, Lancs. Sold in 2011 to Mr Owen by Mr Entwistle. Sandstone pedestal broken before leaving Bolton, and expertly repaired for Mr Owen by Cheltenham Architectural Heritage.
