BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Birch Hotel, Haywards Heath

The dial is set into a designed niche in the brickwork, with protective ledge above. Arabic numerals (only the ’10’ is legible). The motto across the base reads ’TANQVAM FVMVS’ (’then [we are] smoke’?). The house was built for a surgeon about 1887, hence the (approximate) date given.
