BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Dorset

The dial is on the wall of the Science Dept lift shaft, at a height of about 8m. The hour markers are of Cumbrian Green Slate with inset resin letters being the chemical symbols of the first 12 elements. The hours shown are 5am (Boron, B, has atomic number 5) to 4pm (Beryllium, Be, is 4). Noon is shown with Mg, Magnesium, atomic number 12, and so on. The edges of the plates give half hours, and quarter hours are marked by stainless steel discs. S/s cross for noon, and fleur-de-lys from the school badge. 16mm s/s tube gnomon with triangular support,from a s/s fiery sun, with small disc nodus. Seasonal curves for solstices, equinox and sunrise, with zodiacal symbols. An EoT plaque is nearby.
