BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
Round dial, black colour with gilt lettering. No gnomon. An indentation is in the top for a finger to be used as a gnomon (this was to avoid vandalization). Incorporates a sundial and tide tables. Erected to commemorate the Millennium. Structure weighs 3/4 ton. The topograph also gives the direction and distance to several locations. Pedestal is Cornish granite.
Plaque 1 - ’Donated by The Residents of Aldwick Bay Estate to mark the new millennium’
Plaque 2 - ’Distances are in miles taking a direct line’; ’The shadow cast by an index finger placed vertically in the centre of the dial shows solar time’; ’The outer ring shows the approximate time of high tide at each quarter of the moon’.
