BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

15 Lumbutts Road, Lumbutts

A square dial with scrolled top, supported on two wooden corbels and canted out some 15 deg on the E side. In the scrolled top section, ’Lat 53 42 26 Long 2 4 12 / J Whittaker 1864’. Upright numerals VII - XII - IV - V, with full length hour lines and half length half hour lines. At the foot of the dial plate ’How long is time learn thou of me / How fleet is time I ask of thee’. At first floor level, just below the roof line, above the front door at the western end of a block of stone cottages, fronting directly on to the street. R Sylvester reports (Oct 2014) that the hour lines are actually delineated for a horizontal dial at the same latitude! Ref: Gatty 1900, p284
