BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
At around 630mm diameter this armillary sphere presents a handsome appearance with its gold colouring and the decorative ends to its gnomon which carries a small spherical nodus. The wide hour ring has the hours VI - VI and on the outside an inscription which reads ’The stars of heaven bless ye the Lord’ and a fish motif. The dial is mounted on a black pyramidal base with the initials CK and AE and the numerals 19 and 18 on opposing sides. This in turn is supported by a square section stone pillar decorated with rams’ heads, swags and cherubs all painted black. A brass plate on the NE face of the pillar carries a Latin inscription indicating that the dial was restored in 2009 by American colleagues and friends of Eric Anderson.
