BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

A good modern 21st century dial. It is an analemmatic dial, sometimes called an elliptical dial or a playground dial. There is however nothing modern about the design or the principles upon which it works. Time is told from the azimuth of the sun, that is its direction. Just stand on the correct month marked on the scale in the middle of the dial, and your shadow on the elliptical scale tells the time, magic, and you can learn quite a lot of astronomy at the same time.
