BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Norfolk

This unusual dial has Roman hour numerals 4 - 12 - 8, read from the inside, with 30, 15 and 5 minute divisions. It is inscribed ’W B / FECIT’ (possibly ’W I B’ or ’W T B’). The gnomon is a thin solid plate with a double-curved rear edge, and supported on each side by a curved plate. The lower side of the gnomon is cut away on the north and south sides to allow the insertion below of a 24-toothed disc with a large central circular hole which fits over a central boss fixed to the dial plate, allowing the disc to turn. The boss also forms the base for the two curved gnomon supports. Within each 15 degree sector of the rotating plate geographical locations are inscribed in long-hand lettering. An inner ring is inscribed on the dial plate, adjacent to and aligning with the teeth, divided into 24 hours (each with half and quarter hours). By means of this the time at the locations can be found. See fuller details in the archive papers.
