BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Hipping Hall Hotel, Kirkby Lonsdale

This horseshoe shaped dial is painted in blue on a square diamond plate, and hangs on the south front of the hotel. The gnomon is a thin bar with an ’S’ support. Numerals VII - XII - IIII - V, with hour lines to a small arc below the gnomon root, divided to half and quarter hours. Parts of Hipping Hall are very old but the building bearing the dial has a date stone of 1704. It is likely that the dial is of the same age.
