BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The dial is located on the North watch tower. It was restored in 2022 and is painted white with black numerals and lettering. It is inscribed with hour markings denoting 7am to 6pm, and indicators for half and quarter hours. The hour lines run to a small semicircle around gnomon root, containing the latitude information of ’53 deg 7 min’. The date of 1898 is given in the combined top left hand and right hand corners. Between the date squares is the motto ’SUN TIME OF BELAN FORT SLOW Of GREENWICH 17mins’. The gnomon is engraved with the name and address of ’F. Barker and Son, 12 Clerkenwell Rd, London’. The sundial was probably installed by the Hon Frederick Wynn when he built the new watch house over the north gate in the 1890s. Ref: Bulletin 36(iii) June 2024 pp 20-23.
