BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Church of SS Peter and Paul, Ormskirk

This unusual spherical dial forms part of a column which is now unfortunately topped with an insignificant ’garden centre’ horizontal dial. The sandstone globe, thought to date from 1719, has engraved lines indicating longitude, the tropics and the equator. There is also a broad band which might in the past have carried painted signs of the zodiac.
