In the Memorial Garden and mounted on a clay chimney pot is a bronze horizontal dial by R. Gwinnell. It is a memorial dial inscribed ’In memory of Benjamin Raymond Oppenheimer. 14.3.1971 - 20.4.1973’ within a floral band. It shows the hours V - VII divided into halves and quarters and there is a noon gap. It has a 4-point compass rose. Its most strikuing feature is that the gnomon is in the form of a butterfly the straight front edge of its raised wings casting the shadow.
