BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Guernsey

Le PrĂ© is behind ’La Niche’. Mr G B (Dale) Heath (the deceased house owner) designed and made the dial, and printing was by Roger Smith Signs, Guernsey. Mr Heath advised the recorder that the wall on which the dial is mounted (and which was built with the dial in mind) was intended to face due south. However he found that this introduced an unacceptable non-symmetry in the dial design, so he had the wall built at an azimuth of 90 degrees less half the longitude. The dial therefore declines E by 1.25 degrees. The gnomon is a perforated sun-shape. The dial has hour lines for IX - XII - III, divided to quarters, bounded by the solstice lines, and with an analemma at noon. Months are given on the bounding hour lines, swapping across to match the position on the analemma - study the photo! A table of the EOT is given on each side. Inscriptions ’LE PRE’, ’Sol constans est dum terra mondet’ (the sun is constant while the earth moves), and the Lat and Long.
