BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Moor House, Bolton

This attractive but unfortunately unmathematical dial is a work of art and a perfect example of its date early in the 20th century. It looks to be formed in beaten copper sheet and bears an image of the sun rising above waves, with flowers, possibly lotus, at the lower corners. The hour lines are equally spaced, with the vertical around 2.30pm; the gnomon is well-made, with a curlicue support. The lovely house on which it is mounted just below the eaves was designed and built by its first owner, the architect John Bradshaw Gass, around 1900. The dial is visible from the road.
