Hafod Community Park (Bonc yr Hafod), Johnstown nr Wrexham

The gnomon is 6 feet tall, in the form of a miner, and the back edge (the style) is not totally straight. Hour markers are decorated 6:"Rhos 1mi, Dublin 136mi"; 12:"Hope Mountain 6mi North"; 1:"Bersham Colliery 3/4mi"; 3:"Wrexham Wrecsam 3mi"; 4:"Erddig 1mi Manchester 46 mi"; 5:"Beeston Castle 16mi". Other markers depict animals and other natural scenes. There are also stones with distances to The Wrekin, Birmingham, London, and Chirk Castle. Arabic hour numeral stones, read from inside. Made in the form of a sundial, changing through time, the sculpture is a memorial to the miners of the area as well as depicting the wildlife that now inhabits the park.’.
