BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Town End, Troutbeck

This is a replica dial and is marked ’GB 1766’. The original was dated 1766 and signed ’J Wilson Sculp’. The dial plate is in the form of an irregular dodecagon measuring 147 from noon point to the opposite side. Hours IIII - XII - IIII - VIII, from inside, divided to quarter hours and 5 mins. The dial is in a flower plot, on a simple rough slender sandstone pedestal which bore the original dial. The broken gnomon was restored in 1999 by J Davis. Ref: BSS Monograph No 5, see report R9748. Sadly, the gnomon was reported missing in October 2016. Compare SRN 0179 at Askam-on-Furness which is marked ’GB 16’.
