BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Oxfordshire

This is an excellent circular horizontal memorial dial. Around the gnomon root the dialplate has a flaming sun within which are the cardinal letters E, S and W. The hour lines terminate on the sun. The Roman hour numerals from 4am to 8pm, aligned with the hour lines, are read from outside the dial. They use XII at noon and IV at 4pm. There are half and quarter hour ticks and a noon gap. All the engraving is deep and of good quality. The gnomon style (which casts the time shadow) has a knife edge and the gnomon has a scalloped trailing edge.
