BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Taplow Court, Taplow

In the gardens to the north of the house is a bronze horizontal sundial signed by the maker Henry Young and dated 1683. This date may be spurious and the dial is possibly a copy dating from 1912. It measures 305mm in diameter and carries the motto ’Lost time can never be reclaimed.’ It shows the hours IV - VIII divided into halves, quarters, eighths and sixteenths. It has a 4-point compass rose.On the baluster plinth are inscriptions which appear to read ’GOL..ETQUE ETHEL DESBOROUGH’, ’QUINQUE LUSTRIS CGN NUBH’, ’FELICITER PRACTIS’, ’TRIA HORTI HUJUSQUE CPHAMRTA,, ’PORTAS FERREAS FONTEM MARMOREM SOLARIUM O NEHUM’, ’d.d.’, ’AMICI PLUSUAM OCTOGINTA ... GRATULANTES’, MCMXII.
