Hartland Abbey, Hartland

In the walled garden is a bronze horizontal dial with a flat top to its chapter ring above which the sun appears to be rising. It shows the usual hours IV-VIII divided into halves and quarters but not all the hour lines are centred on the gnomon root. The motto rouind the rim reads ’Use well the moments as they fly’. The baluster stone plinth on a square base is 825mm high.
