BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Norfolk

The Pleasaunce was designed by Lutyens and built in 1899. The dial, between first and second floor levels, is above an arched doorway in the centre of the west garden front. It declines very slightly south of west. Aligned numerals II - IIII - VIII - IX, with VI and IX being inside the square chapter ring, to avoid over-crowding. Hour and half-hour lines, with quarter-hour marks. The dial plate is set into the brickwork of the wall, supported by a pair of winged cherub heads and surmounted by a pair of stone balls. Photos Mr Charles Buxton, Aug 07.
