BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Hall Place (3), Leigh

Although well mounted on a north wall, approx. 6m above ground level, this appears to be an attempt at a true south dial except for the hour numbering. It is numbered IV - X (on the vertical) - XII - IV, divided to quarter hours. It could have been designed to show the time at a location 30 deg east (eg the Azores), but the delineation is incorrect, with the four am and four pm lines both falling below the horizontal. The dial is well made and could be C18 or early C19, but the owner knows nothing of its history.
