BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Hall i’ th’ Wood Museum, Bolton

Hall I’th’ Wood Museum was built in 1648 and this attractive dial is set above the window over the front door of the house. Attractive diamond-shaped dial with chamfered concave sides, set above the window over the front door. Roman numerals VII - XII - IV, with tapering hour lines only. The dial is said to be contemporary with the building which is 1648, but it has an ’Arts and Crafts’ feel to the design, and does not seem to have aged 362 years! It is more likely to be early 20th or late 19th century. Substantial gnomon (copper?) with curlicue support. The dial plate appears to be secured to the wall by two copper pins.
