BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Ridding Well, Burton in Lonsdale

A South facing vertical dial made as gates. Designed by Alan Windsor. Made by Andrew of Black Sheep Iron Works, Carnforth. The gates face due south, and the dial is in two parts, mirror images of each other. When closed the shadows cast by the gnomon and the hour lines indicate the time. When the sun is too low in the sky for the shadows to be clear, plates are hung behind the dials so that they still function.
