Dial in Dyfed Area

This dial is a monument to King Hywel Dda (the Good), (died AD 950). The hexagonal dial plate has six circular coloured (enamelled?) panels illustrating Hywel’s life, and is surrounded by six panels with quotes in Welsh from his Law on Contract. The pedestal has Ogham script with ’Peter had me made’, based on the inscription on the ’Alfred Jewel’. Upright Roman numerals IV - XII - IV - VIII, with hour lines only, all engraved and gold leafed. The gnomon is missing.
