BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Almshouses, Ormesby, Middlesbrough

Circular dial painted white on a maroon square diamond plate. Motto around top of circle ’UT HORA SIC VITA’. In the L & R spandrels ’17 76’, though Gatty says the dial is of 1724. Below the gnomon root in a maroon square, a further inscription, not decipherable. Aligned Roman numerals VI - XII - IV - V, with fleur-de-lys on half hour lines and quarters also marked. Better photo to see the central inscription requested.
