BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
A memorial dial for the Hall owners (who were botanical illustrators). A nicely made ’modern’ dial. Small 8-point compass rose labelled to NE etc, read from outside. Aligned Roman numerals IIII - XII - VIII read from inside, with quarter hours. Tulip pattern border. To S; ’Shadow and Sun / So too our lives are made / Yet think how great the sun / how small the shade ’. In spandrels AMWW 1921 IWW 1895 FAWW 1871 FHWW 1845. Dial inset into the square capital of the pedestal. Baluster design with swags of chains and flowers in red sandstone. Edges of capital engraved with the same initials and dates as in the spandrels.
