BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Yorkshire (N)

This is a round dial in a square plate, with a simple 4-point compass at the centre labelled N, S, E, W. It has aligned Roman numerals IIII - XII - IIII - VIII, read from outside, with short hour lines and no other divisions. Around the southern edge is: ’MILLENNIUM A. D. 2000’. The thick solid gnomon has a wavy vertical edge. The dial stands on a squat, square, tapering pedestal with wider top and base sections. The pillar is inscribed on the south ’TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON AND A TIME TO EVERY PURPOSE UNDER THE HEAVEN Ecclesiastes 3. 1.’. On the west is ’CHEESE FAIR’ with a round cheese symbol, and on the east ’19 JUNE 1772 John WESLEY PREACHED HERE’. The north side is inscribed ’STOCKS’ with a corresponding symbol.
