BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Overseas Dials

Three separate chapter rings, the outer one with Roman numerals IIII - XII - IIII - VIII, with 30, 15 1nd 5 minutes divisions. Next, with Gothic Roman numerals ’MELBn TIME AUSTRALIA’ from II to VI. The inner with Arabic numerals ’N. YORK TIME’ from 11 to 3. Various mottoes ’TIME BY MOMENTS STEALS AWAY, FIRST THE HOUR, THEN THE DAY’ - ’Tempus Edax Rerum’ - (in Greek) ’Redeem the time because the days are evil’ - ’Boast not thyself of tomorrow - for on thine eyelids is the Shadow of Death’ - What is Deity? What is Eternity?’. Also EoT shown in whole minutes for the 5th day in every month. Date ’1882’ at gnomon toe.
