BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Turf Maze, Hilton

The spherical dial is at the top of a stone monument in the centre of the ancient maze. Some Roman numerals are partly visible. The inscription on the monument reads : GVLIELMVS SPARROW GEN. NATVS ANO. 1641. AETATIS SVI 88 QVAMDO OBIIT, HOS GYROS FORNAVIT ANNO 1660. "William Sparrow, Gentleman, born in the year 1641, aged 88 when he died, fashioned these circles in the year 1660." It is unlikely that the monument was contemporary with the construction of the maze as the date of death would not have been known. It has been noted that the monument has wiped out part of the centre of the maze and so must have been erected later. Ref: BSS Bulletin Vol 15 (iii) Sept 2003 p 116 which describes this dial and explores spherical dials in general. Ref: http://www.gwydircastle.co.uk/
