BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Lyons Hall, Braintree

Horizontal sundial to the south of the house. 8-point compass rose labelled to NW etc. Floral ring. Aligned Roman hour numerals, read from inside, IIII - XII - IIII - VIII. No obvious gnomon gap. Divisions to 5 mins. Motto ’...of Storms ... Sunny Hours’ or similar. Baluster style pedestal set on a millstone. Quite finely engraved but probably a standard design.
