BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Yorkshire (N)

Aligned Roman hour numerals, read from outside, IIII - XII - VIII, with noon gap. Inner ring to 1/8th hours with 3-arrow 1/2 hour marks. Outer ring divided to 1 mins, 10’s numbered in Arabic, with fleur-de-lys 1/2 hours. Names of places with arrows to minutes ring. ’Kirk Hammerton’ in noon gap. 32-point compass, alternate points labelled ie NNE etc. Ring with names of dogs and houses. Anticlockwise EOT read from outside, days labelled 10 / 20 / 28/30/31. Minutes with max/min excess seconds given. Ring with names of grandchildren. To N, read from N, names and DoB of children (donors), and ’John Davis Flowton fecit’. To S, read from S, Coat of Arms of Fenwicke-Clennell with motto ’Tous Jours Loyale’. Names of ’Warren’ and ’Caroline’ with dates of wedding and 50th anniversary. Ref BSS Bulletin 15(i)n pp 6-14 (2003).
