BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Oxfordshire

The dial is held in store. Aligned Roman hour numerals IIII - XII - VIII, read from outside, with noon gap. Inner ring, eighth hours marked with fleur-de-lys half hours, outer ring divided to minutes, 10’s labelled in Arabic numerals. Clockwise EOT read from inside, with days numbered 10/20/30/31, and minutes with excess at max & min. ’Watch faster / slower’. Scale for sun’s azimuth around vertical edge of gnomon, with ’SOUTH’ in gnomon gap. Degree scale 130 - 0 - 130, divided to degrees. Coat of Arms for Duke of Marlborough at S. Signed to N of gnomon ’JOHN ROWLEY LONDINI FECIT’ Gnomon 12 thick with elaborate piercing including Churchill crest, and engrave ’HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE’.
