BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Oxfordshire

Elterwater Cumbrian green slate, and brass gnomon. Dates at top mark centenary of house (1907 - 2007). Multifaceted carved sunburst at origin with centre as scaphe (scaphe not delineated as a dial, just to show interesting shadows). Flared hour lines as ’rays’. Upright Arabic hour numerals and half-hour spots. Quotation from John Donne: ’Love all alike no season knows, nor clime, nor hours, days, months, which are the rags of time.’ Lat. And Lon. And initials of owners at bottom (GB / PHWB). All detail carved and gilded. Dial split about thickness of gnomon (6mm) and time is read from leading edge. Dial corrected for longitude. Mounted on brick wall declining 21deg 36min W of S. Dial sits on supporting corbel made of Portland stone.
