BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge

Aligned Roman numerals, read from inside, VI - noon - IIII - VI with ’0’ for noon. Short hour lines to dial centre, not to gnomon root; half & quarter hour marks. Very badly delineated. Figure of Father Time with scythe by gnomon root, and around him "GROW OLD ALONG WITH ME THE BEST IS YET TO BE". Gnomon supported by figure of a bird. Dial (probably) of American origin (cast in relief) with correspondingly lower gnomon angle (about 40 deg). Compare SRN 6518. Circular sectioned baluster style pedestal, in floral gardens by ’The Grove’. Modern garden-centre type dial - not what one would expect of a Cambridge college! The decent pedestal and good surroundings warrant something better.
