BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Conock Manor, Chirton, Nr Devizes

Located in the garden to the east of the house. The dial has a 16-pt compass rose, labelled eg NNE. Anticlockwise Equation of Time complete circler for the Gregorian calendar; April zero at Noon line. Days numbered 10, 20, 28/30/31. Arabic integer minutes. Numerals read from outside, aligned, noon is marked as XII and 4pm as IIII, noon gap. Minutes 1s, 5s, 10s (Arabic). Inscription shows makers name ’DOLLOND / LONDON’ and latitude ’LAT 51 25’. The gnomon is 12mm thick with a sigmoidal N edge; quadrant strip buttressing with chamfered ends. Unadorned bulbous baluster Bath stone (?) pedestal. Possibly contemporary weathervanes shows a date of 1731.
