BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Mary the Virgin’s Church, Walkern

The Latin motto reads: ’Non est mortale quod opto’ (Ovid, Metamorphoses Book II, line 56: What I desire is not mortal [or, is not for mortals]). Also a Greek motto which translates as ’O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee’ (Psalm 63 verse 1). Shows 8am to 2pm in half hours. Time scale is odd with 10am being under a vertical plane gnomon.Thin unsupported rod gnomon. Full length hour lines. The dial is a copy of, and is probably mounted on top of, an earlier one, photo (b), which is/was a transitional dial (developed from a mass dial). Located on buttress.
