BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Devon

This replaces an (unrecorded) Negretti & Zambra dial from the 1880s which fell and was smashed in 2005. It uses the original dial’s bronze surface mounted gnomon with finger end and fillet undersupporter which is pierced by a quatrefoil. The whole is set in a brick-framed niche in the brick wall. An inscription reads ’Negretti & Zambra, Opticians, London. 2005 BJ’. It shows 8am to 6pm (delin 7:00 to 7:00pm) in half and quarter hours, the half hours marked by inward arrows. The hour lines extend through the main numerals which are aligned vertically except 8am, 3pm and 4pm which are orthogonal to the hour lines.
