BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Ham House [NT] (1), Richmond

A unique original dial, this painted Great Decliner is to be found behind the panelling of an upstairs room. It was previously on an outside wall which declines approximately 80° east, but was obscured by an extension built in 1672-1674. The date is thought to read 1622. A motto reads: "Vigilate---", possibly Vigilate et Orate [Watch and Pray], in black lettering on a gold scroll. The dial has hour lines for 4am at least to 8am in hours, the numeral 4 alone being visible, painted in gold outlined in black. Hour lines for 9am to noon are very likely on the hidden section of the dial. Ref: C St J H Daniel, The Sundial Page, February 2005.
