BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Peter’s Church (1), Wolvercote

A pair of vertical declining dials high on the corner of the tower. The current dials and the motto "Redeem the Time" are modern (1995) but replace much older dials and the same motto. The right hand wall faces about 37 degrees east of south, the left hand one about 37 degrees south of west. The gnomon and hour line angles reflect this, approximately. The strip gnomons are possibly original, but their angles are incorrect - their top edges should be, but are not, parallel. The dials have painted hour lines and attached lettering. The Roman hour numerals use ’1’ characters, not capital ’I’s which look ’wrong’ and the angles and positions of the characters are inconsistent, perhaps because of the difficulty of attaching lettering to an old tower. Hour lines have been painted from the numerals to the gnomon roots. They are obviously inaccurate which detracts from the appearance of the dials. For instance, the 7pm line (as all the others) should but does not converge with the upper edge of the gnomon. The south-east-facing dial shows hours from 5am to 2pm. The south-west dial shows 3pm to 7pm, but an unpainted line is visible to the left of the 3pm line, so the original dial may have had a 2pm line here. See also dial SRN 6004 just below this one.
