BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The Red Lion, Hernhill

This sundial is to the right and above the door on the south wall of the pub. The inscription reads: ’1364 AD’, being the pub date. The numerals and gnomon are of black iron mounted on white plaster. The gnomon angle is too small and the Roman numerals, arranged close together in an arc and using the from XII and IIII purport to show 8am to 7pm in hours. A 1960’s photo of the pub shows no dial; but it was recorded in 2003. A report of Dec 2010 shows the dial whitewashed over, with the date obliterated. However, the dial with the date above is known to have been there in 2014.
