BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The Royal Hotel, St Martin

The dial may have come from St Martin’s Church nearby. It is now set upside down in a rough stone wall as an ornament in the car park of the hotel. It has a semicircular timescale and stone which are not concentric, and shows 6am to 6pm in ’hours’, with equispaced hour lines. This is unlike other old dials on the Island so this may be older. A tab at base may have the date - could it read 1662?
